Big Mamma's Door

Print

London based Big Mamma's Door play their brand of good old sexy 50's Rhythm & Blues with a whole lot of professionalism and love for the blues.

Fronted by Irish woman, Fiona McElroy, Big Mamma’s Door formed in London in mid 2007, when Fiona hooked up with the rest of BMD by hanging out and jamming at ‘Ain't Nothin' But’, the blues bar in Soho. There, on a good Monday night, you can see just about the best blues musicians jamming together on stage, and that's where Big Mamma's Door was born. When Fiona met Mal Barclay (Guitar) they thought about jamming on a more regular basis. Then the rockin’ Rob Pokorny (Drums) joined the equation and finally the fantastic fingers of Henri Herbert (Piano), together with the lovely & very talented John Culleton (Bass) completed the line-up.

Between them, the members of BMD have played at most of the top Blues festivals in Europe, including Rhythm 'n' Blues Festival Antwerpen, The Great British RnB, Colne, Rock & Blues Weekend, Skegness, Burnley Blues Festival, and even Bestival. They have toured UK and European Clubs, with some of the best Blues bands on the scene at the moment, including The Cadillac Kings, Jeremiah Marques & the Blue Aces, West Weston's Bluesonics, The Paul Garner Band, and Roadhouse.

Big Mamma’s Door don’t regurgitate the soul-less heart-less pop of the 00's. The music is just top notch … Real Blues, Real Soul, making Blues fun and just a little bit dirty!

“This is an engaging and highly energetic band ... the audience was wowed by the sheer personality of Fiona as a performer, the artistry of Mal on guitar and the musical excellence of the rest of the band.” Bill Smith, Blues in Britain
